What if the objects around us aren’t just functional, but uncanny mirrors of our daily lives? This workshop turns attention to the unnoticed, the mundane, and asks: what happens when we copy it? Using molds, casts, and materials, we will replicate public objects, interrogate them, and reimagine their presence.

Copying is architecture’s secret obsession, admired in private, mostly resisted in public. But isn’t copying the ultimate compliment? We will question the meaning of replication: the anonymity of objects, the endless repetition, the emotions, or absence of them, they provoke.

Over the workshop, we will explore how copies can transform, adapt, or disrupt, how minor changes in material, scale, or context produce new readings. Each replica becomes both inquiry and object, revealing hidden patterns in the urban landscape.

Through observing, questioning and making, participants will confront the infinite possibilities of copies in public space. The workshop is a laboratory of repetition, materiality, and reflection, a chance to see the city not just as it is, but as it could be, through the lens of replication.

In a world of endless production, COPY (COPY) VIENNA (VIENNA) asks: how many times can something exist? And what does it mean when it does?

Batja Ferch has an architectural and artistic background, focusing on material exploration and process-based making. Working across spatial practice and sculptural intervention, she explores the relationship between materials, spaces and narratives. She treats process and outcome as equally significant and her work emphasises experimentation, often unfolding in collaborative, site-responsive contexts. She studied at the Friedl Kubelka School for Artistic Photography and has exhibited at Parallel Vienna, OstLicht and Architektur Haus Kärnten, among others.
