A Land Art Project by Peter Noever

Thursday 08.09.22, 2pm, Breitenbrunn am Neusiedlersee

Die Grube is a land art project by Peter Noever in Breitenbrunn on Lake Neusiedl that has existed since the early 1970s and is constantly being developed. The starting point of the project is the over 200-year-old wine cellar built of sandstone. The northern end of the cellar vault was uncovered, the cellar end wall was moved inwards so that a vaulted, wind-protected room with benches and tables made of sandstone - from the adjoining quarry - was created, open to the north. Adjacent to this is "The Pit" (at the bottom a diameter of 8 metres, the upper rim of the funnel has a diameter of 20 metres). The slope of the grassy embankment is more than 50 degrees. In the hermetic cone of grass, yet spread wide open to the sky, one can sit down below in the open on sandstone ashlars.
